Actor Bobby J. Brown, best known for his role in the acclaimed HBO series The Wire, has died at the age of 62 following a devastating barn fire in Maryland, according to multiple reports. The shocking accident has sent waves of grief through the entertainment industry and among fans of the iconic crime drama.
Emergency crews were called to a large barn fire with reports of a person trapped inside shortly after 10 p.m. on February 26. Firefighters arrived to find the structure almost completely engulfed in flames. Despite efforts to contain the blaze, a man was later found dead inside the barn once the fire was brought under control, officials said.
Authorities stated that the victim had been attempting to jump-start a vehicle inside the barn when the fire broke out. He reportedly contacted his wife, asking her to bring a fire extinguisher, but the flames spread rapidly before help could arrive. Brown’s wife suffered burns to her hands while trying to rescue him and was taken to hospital for treatment.
While initial emergency statements did not identify the victim by name, reports later confirmed it was Brown. His daughter told media outlets that her father died from smoke inhalation. The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as diffuse thermal injury and smoke inhalation, officially classifying the incident as an accident.
Brown’s representative described him as a dedicated professional and a joy to work with, offering condolences to his family as tributes poured in from colleagues and fans.
